Now that we’ve familiarised ourselves with the Teacher Environment, let’s take a closer look at how your students will be using Cadmus. When students click on the Cadmus assignment link in their LMS, they’ll have to accept the Cadmus privacy notice and then click through to be taken to the Cadmus Student Environment.

So let’s take a look around the interface. On the left, we've got the Instructions. This is where students will see the latest assignment instructions that you’ve released.

Next to the Instructions, there’s a space for Notes, which doesn’t get submitted with their final work. They can use it for planning or to collect research. You can even get them to copy in checklists from the Instructions so they can easily step through an assessment task.

On the right is the Work space, which is where students write their assignment. They can use the toolbar up the top to do things like format their writing and add images. They’ll find their word count over here in the top-right, and see that everything is automatically being saved online as they work.

At the bottom of the work space is the References section where they’ll create their end of text reference list. They’ve also got access to referencing guides right in here as well. Clicking on the ? in the bottom-right, opens up Cadmus Manual. In here, they’ll be able to find information on referencing and academic writing, as well as articles on using Cadmus if they ever get stuck.

One last educative feature in the Student Environment is Paste Chips. Whenever students copy in text from an external source, they’ll be reminded to paraphrase or use an in-text citation. Clicking the links on the chip opens up Cadmus Manual again, with the relevant resources they need.

Finally, once students have finished their work they submit through Cadmus as well. We’ll learn more about the submission process next.
